Stress is an indispensable part our lives, and it isn’t always a negative thing. There are times when stress makes you perform better and faster. It keeps you on your toes and ensures you’re motivated to keep moving on with utmost zeal and enthusiasm. But make sure you don’t overdo it, with your health going for a toss.
Stress causes the release of cortisol, known as the stress hormone as well as adrenaline. These two hormones influence your mood, eating habits, sleep patterns, blood pressure, metabolism and your ability to fight against illness. So, if your stress persists for a longer time, seek professional help.
But the level of stress depends on you and your lifestyle. Stress comes to each and every one, but how you live with it is a bigger deal.
Some of these simple yet effective lifestyle suggestions and actions can help you reduce or manage your stress.
Identify the cause of your stress
Have you ever thought what makes you worry so much? Have you ever sat down and listed the things which give you tension most of the times? If not, then do it right away. Write down everything which keeps troubling you – money, career, job, emotions, health etc. Arrange them as per their priority.
It’s a simple rule and belief – if it’s not going to matter 5 years later, it shouldn’t matter now. We tend to complicate things and call for unnecessary stress. By identifying your stress points, you don’t just clarity in present, but it also helps you streamline your future and gives you a focused direction.
You may not be able change the situation, but your responses are in control of yourself. Manage your days better. Make a schedule and be a little more disciplined. Set deadlines so that there’s no work piled up and hence, less stress. It’s ok to say ‘no’. Do what’s in your bandwidth.
When you take charge of your life, these everyday accomplishments make for the bigger ones. When things fall under your control, stress takes a step back.
Being disciplined is a must but don’t be rigid. It’s ok to adapt to situation if it demands so. Don’t take stress just because you couldn’t finish a task today. Fit it somewhere in your next day’s schedule and you’ll be fine.
Seek help if needed. At work, at home, at college – don’t hesitate to step up and ask for help. It only makes you wiser and more receptive as a person.
Health comes first
In your priority list, health should be on top of everything else. The major reason for any stress is ill-health. Not eating right, disturbed sleep and avoiding basic exercises, leads to more stress. We can rather say, it’s a vicious cycle.
Eat on time, sleep on time. No matter how busy your schedule looks, spare 20 minutes you’re your daily routine for workout/yoga/exercise whatever suits your health and body type. It’s not necessary you have to hit the gym. You can dance, do aerobics or zumba – pickup anything you like and ensure you do that every day for a few minutes.
Keep your thoughts healthy
You only grow with every challenge and failure, making you wiser than before. So isn’t this a positive thing? Keep your mind and thoughts always positive and adaptive. Deal with one thing at a time and focus on the brighter side of any situation.
Learn to have fun
Let yourself breathe in fresh air and let your hair down. Spend time with people who have a positive impact on your life. Take some time out to do nothing. Yes. Nothing!
Go have that dinner with your friend, which has been pending since some time now, listen to your favorite music, travel to any new place or go for a walk with your pet. Just make sure you do something regularly which fuels your happiness and makes you feel good.
